In 1988 Earnhardt signed a new sponsor which replaced his unlucky #15 Wrangler Jeans Car. He signed up with General Motors Goodwrench, the full black car gave Dale Earnhardt 2 nicknames:

- "The man in black" referred to Dale Earnhardt because the coloring scheme on the car was black.
- "The Darth Vader" was the other nickname referring to Dale Earnhardt, he was called so because he would wreck you if you don't let him pass you.
With these legendary names and ofcourse legendary car he won a lot of races.
